Individual consultancy
Individual consultancy, otherwise known as coaching,
mentoring or non-managerial supervision, is when an individual
seeks advice and support so that they can perform to the
peak of their potential.
To work effectively you need to create ‘time
to think’. People working in demanding or stressful
environments can find this difficult. A confidential,
ongoing relationship with a skilled and experienced
independent consultant gives you the opportunity to
explore in depth, and over time, the challenges and
opportunities in your working life.
In my experience, developing policy and providing services
for people who are vulnerable, disadvantaged, traumatised,
or suffer from chronic uncertainty in their lives can
have a profound effect on trustees, managers and staff.
While the stresses and strains of this kind of work
may be recognised at a rational level by the individual
and the organisation, the cumulative impacts may be
experienced at a less conscious emotional level. People
can feel ‘burnt out’, confused or anxious
in ways that are difficult to identify or manage and
which it may not be helpful or appropriate to discuss
with colleagues, friends or family.
Objectives of individual consultations
Through consultations you
can expect to:
 |
identify symptoms and sources of
stress in yourself and in your colleagues and subordinates
– and how to cope with these |
 |
enhance your capacity to lead and
manage effectively |
 |
develop a greater understanding of
the factors which motivate and influence the way
you and others work |
 |
develop new insights into interpersonal
relationships, group and organisational dynamics
and processes |
 |
plan and monitor your professional
and personal development. |
You or your colleagues may find it helpful to consult
me if:
 |
the external environment
is changing rapidly in ways which you and your organisation
need to anticipate and respond to effectively |
 |
you are in situations which provoke
conflict and anxiety |
 |
you are starting a new job or taking
up a new role in your organisation |
 |
you need a career change. |
